Udupi, Aug 14: Iqbal alias Iqbal Sheikh (34), a resident of Mission Compound, Kolambe, 76 Badagubettu, within the limits of Udupi town police station, has been detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act.
Based on a report submitted by the superintendent of police, Udupi district, the inspector general of police, Western Zone, Mangaluru, issued the detention order on August 13. Following the order, Iqbal was detained under the PIT-NDPS Act on the same day.

According to the police, Iqbal has three cases registered against him at Manipal police station, while Udupi town police station has registered two cases related to the transportation and sale of narcotic substances and one case related to drug consumption.
The police stated that all five cases related to the transportation and sale of narcotic substances are currently under trial before the court. In the two cases registered in connection with drug consumption, he has already been convicted.
The authorities have ordered that the detained accused be lodged at the central prison in Kalaburagi.
