Bengaluru Swiggy delivery partner turns Rs 2,700 job into home, bike and better future for children

Bengaluru, Aug 12: Success is not reserved only for those working in air-conditioned rooms of big companies. Bengaluru-based Swiggy delivery partner Roopchand Bar is an example of how honest hard work and perseverance can transform a person’s life.

Originally from a farming family in a village in Kolkata, Roopchand was a district-level athlete in running competitions during his school days. His biggest dream was to join the Indian Army and serve the country. However, his dream was shattered as he did not meet the required physical height for recruitment into the Army.

With no money but determined to build a life for himself, Roopchand boarded a train to Bengaluru in search of opportunities.

After arriving in Bengaluru, Roopchand took up a housekeeping job, earning a monthly salary of just Rs 2,700. Making a living with this meagre income was a challenge.

In 2016, on the advice of a friend, he joined Swiggy as a delivery partner. That decision changed his life. Within just the first week of joining Swiggy, he earned more than what he had previously received as an entire month’s salary from his housekeeping job.

Roopchand has now completed 10 years with Swiggy. His achievements over the past decade are significant. He has built a beautiful house in his village and purchased a bike for his commute.

Most importantly, he has provided his children with quality education at a private school in the city, laying a strong foundation for their future.

Recognised as a ‘Star Performer’ at the company, Roopchand has also demonstrated through his achievements that there is no reason for young people to look down upon delivery jobs.

Another special aspect of Roopchand’s journey is his command of languages. Originally a Bengali speaker, he now speaks Kannada, Hindi and English fluently.

While many people who come to the state from other parts of the country spend years without learning the local language, Roopchand speaks Kannada while delivering food to customers.

“I am the first person in my family to learn three or four languages,” he proudly says.

Roopchand Bar’s story of coming from a situation where he had nothing and achieving financial stability through 10 years of consistent hard work has become a major source of inspiration for today’s frustrated youth.

His journey is an example that regardless of the nature of the job, success is assured when there is dedication, sincerity and hard work.
