Mangaluru, Jul 30: The Mangaluru rural police have arrested a proclaimed offender who had been absconding for nearly two-and-a-half years in connection with an attempt to murder and dacoity case.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mukul Das alias Koyil (29), son of Lohithakshan, a resident of Manappettividu, Ittumuna, Karuvannur, in Kerala's Thrissur district.
According to the police, the accused was wanted in Mangaluru rural police station crime no 52/2024, registered under sections 120B, 457, 342, 323, 324, 307, 395, 397, 506, 201 read with section 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Since he had remained absconding from the time the case was registered, the police had filed an absconding charge sheet against him.
The trial court had subsequently declared him a proclaimed accused.
Acting on credible information about his whereabouts, a police team traced and apprehended him from the jurisdiction of Cherpu police station in Thrissur district, Kerala.
The operation was led by PSI Arun Kumar D, along with HC Dayananda (2217), CPC Sikandar (940), CPC Birendra (2378), CPC Ramesh (2379), and CPC Pradeep (3193), with technical assistance from HC Ranjith of the COP office.
The accused was produced before the competent court, which remanded him to judicial custody, the police said.
