Kundapur, Jul 31: Police have revealed that a financial dispute and other business-related differences allegedly led to the shooting murder of Ivan Richard Mascarenhas (45), a resident of Kachoor in Barkur, in the early hours of Friday, July 31. Three special teams have been constituted to trace the accused, Derek, who remains absconding.

According to the police, Derek allegedly called Ivan at around 11:45 pm on July 30 regarding pending payments connected to the prawn supply business. During the conversation, Derek reportedly offered to mediate and help recover the outstanding amount. However, the discussion soon turned into a heated argument, during which Derek allegedly challenged Ivan to come alone to Kundapur.

Police said Derek later shared his location with Ivan at around 1:30 am on July 31. Ivan then drove to the location and parked his car on the concrete road opposite Holy Rosary Church on Church Road in Kundapur.

At around 3:15 am, Derek allegedly arrived in a black-and-red Mahindra Thar SUV and stopped in front of Ivan’s vehicle. As Ivan stepped out of his car, Derek allegedly opened fire with a handgun, shooting him below the waist before fleeing the spot in the same vehicle.

Ivan suffered gunshot injuries to his waist and leg and collapsed on the road. He succumbed to excessive blood loss at the scene before medical assistance could reach him.

Police suspect that the murder was the outcome of financial transactions and other business-related disputes between the accused and the deceased.

A case has been registered at the Kundapur police station.

Police said three special teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused, Derek . Further investigations are underway.
