Beltangady, Jul 21: A 60-year-old pedestrian, who sustained grievous injuries after being hit by a tourist tempo traveller while crossing the road at Venur Main Bazaar on July 19, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital later that day.
The deceased has been identified as Ananda Poojary (60), a resident of Kangitthilu in Bajire village.
According to police, the accident occurred near the Venur bus stand when Ananda was crossing the highway. A tourist tempo traveller, travelling from Belthangady towards Moodbidri, allegedly knocked him down.

He was initially administered first aid at Venur before being shifted to a private hospital in Ujire for advanced treatment. However, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries later in the evening.
Venur police have seized the tempo traveller and registered a case against its driver, Vinayaka. Preliminary investigation indicates that the accident was caused due to the driver's negligent driving.
