Udupi, Jul 20: Four persons, including the driver, were injured after a Mahindra Thar SUV went out of control and plunged into a roadside drain near B C Road at Bantakal on the Shirva-Katapady State Highway on Sunday, July 19.
The injured have been identified as Balakrishna (21) of Shirva, who was driving the vehicle, and three co-passengers, including two young women. All four sustained injuries, with three reportedly suffering serious injuries. They were admitted to a private hospital in Udupi for treatment.
According to sources, local residents rushed to the spot immediately after the accident and helped rescue the occupants from the damaged vehicle.
Jayasheel Hegde, administrator of Sode Sri Subrahmanya Temple, who was travelling to Kundapur at the time, stopped to assist the injured. With the support of Bantakal Nagarika Seva Samiti president K R Patkar, he shifted two of the injured to TMA Pai Hospital in Udupi in his car.
The remaining two injured were taken to hospital in the Bantakal Nagarika Seva Samiti ambulance, driven by Virendra Patkar.
Police from Shirva police station visited the accident site, conducted an inspection and initiated further investigation into the incident.
