Udupi, Jul 17: Families sharing the Cornelio surname from across Udupi, Mangaluru, and neighbouring regions will come together on Saturday, August 15, for the Cornelio Family Get-Together at Ocean Pearl, Times Square Mall, Kalsanka here. Beginning at 12:00 pm and concluding around 6:00 pm, the gathering is being organised as a simple and meaningful occasion to reconnect, celebrate a shared heritage, and strengthen family bonds.
The event has generated an encouraging response, with families confirming their participation not only from coastal Karnataka but also from Mumbai, Bengaluru, and other parts of India. Members of the Cornelio family living overseas have also extended their support and expressed interest in staying connected through this initiative.
The afternoon will feature a prayer service, a formal stage programme, keynote addresses, recognition of distinguished members of the Cornelio family, a fellowship lunch, interactive family activities, cultural performances, music, and opportunities for participants to meet relatives and connect with families they may not have known before.
Speaking about the gathering, lead organiser Melwyn Cornelio said, "The idea began with a simple thought. Many of us share the Cornelio surname, yet we have never had the opportunity to know one another. The WhatsApp group we recently created became the first step towards reconnecting, and this gathering is a natural extension of that journey.
"Our hope is to create a platform where Cornelio families can build lasting relationships and remain connected wherever they are. We also want our younger generation to know more about the history and roots of our family, learn from one another, and continue the values that have shaped our community over the years. This gathering is simply an opportunity to come together, celebrate our shared heritage, and strengthen those connections for the future."
One of the key aspirations of the gathering is to encourage greater interaction across generations. By bringing together elders, professionals, religious leaders, families, and young people in one place, the organisers hope to create an environment where experiences, family stories, and values can be shared naturally while building friendships that extend beyond the event itself.
