New Delhi, Jun 30: The National Health Authority (NHA) has integrated Google's artificial intelligence capabilities into the newly launched Aarogya Setu 2.0 application, enabling users to create comprehensive digital health profiles by processing unstructured medical records.
The integration uses Google's Gemma 4 open model along with the Medical Data Toolkit to identify, analyse and process different types of health records, including text-based documents and medical images. The AI tools extract important details such as laboratory test names, methods and results, and convert the information into the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) format.
The standardised FHIR format will help enable seamless exchange of health records among hospitals and healthcare providers, supporting interoperability under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

The collaboration is part of Google's partnership with the NHA aimed at strengthening India's Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for healthcare.
Google has also open-sourced the Medical Data Toolkit, allowing developers and healthcare organisations to use the technology free of cost to digitise and standardise older medical records while ensuring compliance with India's healthcare interoperability standards.
Google India Vice President and Country Manager Preeti Lobana said the tools are designed to give citizens greater control over their health journeys while reducing barriers for innovation in health technology.
She added that Google's AI capabilities are helping strengthen India's digital health ecosystem and Digital Public Infrastructure, and expressed confidence that Indian developers would build new healthcare solutions addressing both domestic and global health challenges.
The toolkit currently supports common health records such as laboratory reports and observations and uses a rules-based approach to organise extracted medical information.
Google said all health records and personal health information stored within the Aarogya Setu 2.0 application remain under the user's control, ensuring privacy and ownership of health data.
The company reiterated its commitment to supporting India's digital healthcare transformation through its artificial intelligence technologies.
