Hebri, Jun 27: A woman had a narrow escape after a huge tree branch fell on her moving scooter near Hebri Three Road Junction on Friday morning, damaging the vehicle.
The incident occurred when Chitra S Bhatt from Koorgi was travelling towards Sringeri via the Hebri route. A large branch from a roadside tree suddenly fell on the scooter, hitting both the front and rear portions of the vehicle.
The woman, who was seated between the damaged parts of the scooter, escaped a major tragedy by a narrow margin. She sustained a crush injury to her leg and was treated following the incident.

The fallen branch also disrupted traffic movement for some time. Local residents and officials reached the spot and cleared the tree debris.
Residents said several dangerous trees in the area pose a threat, especially as schoolchildren regularly walk through the route in the mornings. They noted that a major tragedy was avoided as schools were closed on Friday.
Social worker Srikanth Poojary and locals urged the Forest Department to remove dangerous trees in the area, stating that repeated appeals to concerned authorities had not yielded results.
Following the incident, the Forest Department officials removed the hazardous tree and cleared the danger.
