Udupi, Jun 6: In a bid to prevent drowning incidents during the monsoon season, authorities have begun installing a protective barricade along Malpe Beach and prohibited visitors from entering the sea.
With rough sea conditions intensifying due to the southwest monsoon, the Tourism Department has taken precautionary measures to ensure the safety of tourists. The process of erecting the barricade commenced on Wednesday.
A fish-net fence measuring approximately 1 km in length and 10 feet in height is being installed along the shoreline. Red warning flags are being placed at regular intervals to alert visitors about the danger. Tourists will be allowed to visit the beach but will have to enjoy the sea from a safe distance for the next three months.

Officials said warning boards in both Kannada and English have been put up, clearly informing visitors not to enter the water. The barricade is expected to remain in place until after September 15, depending on sea conditions.
The Tourism Department stated that lifeguards, tourist mitras and Coastal Security Police personnel will continue regular patrols at the beach as in previous years.
Malpe Beach attracts thousands of visitors every day who come to enjoy its scenic beauty. However, many tourists may be disappointed as they will not be allowed to venture into the sea during the monsoon period.
Speaking on the restrictions, Vindhya, Assistant Director of the Tourism Department, said that entry into the sea is banned every year during the monsoon to ensure visitor safety.
“Tourists are free to visit the beach and enjoy the surroundings, but they are not permitted to enter the water. Red flags and warning boards have been installed as a precautionary measure. We request all visitors to cooperate,” she said.
