Udupi: Man held in Shirva cow carcass case; police seize hide and suspected weapons

Udupi, June 5: Shirva police have arrested a man in connection with the recovery of cattle remains from the Papanashini stream at Kallottu in Shirva village of Kaup taluk.

The accused has been identified as Ashok, a resident of Padavu near Babbu Swami Daivasthana in Shirva village, Kaup taluk.

According to police, information was received on June 1, regarding cattle remains found in the Papanashini stream beneath Kallottu Bridge in Shirva village.

Acting on the tip-off, Shirva police sub-inspector Manjunath Marabada inspected the site in the presence of officials from the Veterinary Hospital, Kapu, and district crime investigation officers.

During the mahazar proceedings, police recovered and seized the animal's upper jaw, two hooves, meat and internal organs from the spot. Based on the findings, a case was registered at Shirva police station and an investigation was launched.

As part of the probe, investigators identified Ashok, 52, as the accused. He was apprehended on Friday, June 5, from Padavu in Shirva village.

During the operation, police seized cattle hide allegedly found in the possession of the accused, along with weapons suspected to have been used in the offence. Following his arrest, Ashok was produced before the jurisdictional court.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of deputy superintendent of police Vijay Prasad and Kaup circle inspector Azmath Ali. The investigation team comprised Shirva PSI Manjunath Marabada, Lohith Kumar C S, police personnel Manjunath Adiga, Kiran and Yallalinga, Kaup police station staff member Raghu, and Padubidri police station personnel Rahiman and Sandesh.
