Goa schools to reopen on June 6 despite heatwave, monsoon delay

Daijiworld Media Network – Panaji

Panaji, Jun 3: Schools across Goa will reopen on June 6 as scheduled, with the state government ruling out any change to the academic calendar despite prevailing heatwave conditions and the delayed arrival of the monsoon.

Education Director Shailesh Zingade said there are no plans to postpone the reopening of schools and that all educational institutions are expected to commence the new academic year as planned.

Addressing concerns over weather conditions, Zingade assured that necessary preparations have been made to ensure a smooth start to the academic session.

He also stated that funds meant for raincoats and school uniforms are being directly transferred to the bank accounts of eligible students, enabling them to make timely purchases ahead of the monsoon season.

On infrastructure readiness, the Education Director said renovation and maintenance works in schools across the state are nearing completion. While a few minor issues are yet to be addressed, there are no major construction or repair works pending that could disrupt academic activities.

The Education Department has been closely monitoring preparations at educational institutions to ensure they are fully equipped for the reopening.

Officials expressed confidence that schools are ready to welcome students back and that all necessary arrangements have been put in place for the new academic year.

Reaffirming its commitment to student welfare, the department said efforts are being focused on providing a safe, comfortable and conducive learning environment across schools in the state.
