Tehran, Jun 2: Iran has suspended indirect peace negotiations with the United States, citing continued Israeli military operations in Lebanon and alleging that the attacks violate broader ceasefire understandings in the region.
According to Iranian state-affiliated media reports, Tehran has halted talks and exchanges of messages with Washington through mediators until Israeli military actions in Lebanon and Gaza cease. Iranian officials maintain that any ceasefire arrangement applies to all regional fronts, including Lebanon.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Israeli attacks in Lebanon and what he described as contradictory US positions were delaying diplomatic progress and deepening mistrust between Tehran and Washington.

The decision follows renewed Israeli strikes on Hezbollah-linked targets in Beirut's southern suburbs and other parts of Lebanon. Tehran has argued that continued military operations threaten ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at easing regional tensions.
Reports indicate that Iran has informed mediators that no further negotiations will take place until its demands regarding Lebanon and Gaza are addressed. Iranian media also reported discussions on potential retaliatory measures, including stronger control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The suspension represents a setback for recent diplomatic efforts to stabilise the region, preserve ceasefire arrangements and advance broader understandings between Iran and the United States.
Despite the latest tensions, Washington has not announced any formal change in its policy, while diplomatic efforts by regional and international mediators continue to prevent further escalation.
