Mumbai, May 27: Veteran singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has voiced strong criticism against the recreated version of the iconic Bollywood song Chunnari Chunnari, featured in Varun Dhawan’s upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.
The singer, who lent his voice to the original track from the 1999 hit film Biwi No. 1, expressed disappointment over the remake and questioned the growing trend of recreating classic Bollywood songs.

Speaking during an interview, Abhijeet described Chunnari Chunnari as one of the biggest songs associated with Salman Khan’s career and said its popularity continues even today.
He remarked that Salman Khan was still a rising actor at the time of the original release, but the song went on to become a major hit and remains widely loved by audiences.
Taking an indirect dig at actor Varun Dhawan, Abhijeet said modern actors cannot become stars merely by recreating old successful songs and films.
He also stated that several current films rely heavily on “second-hand content,” referring to remakes and reused musical tracks from earlier decades.
According to the singer, the recreated version of Chunnari Chunnari lacked the charm and energy of the original and now sounded completely different from the classic song audiences remembered.
Abhijeet further revealed that the makers of the film had never approached him before recreating the song. He added that even if he had been contacted, he may not have agreed to participate as he believed the remake could affect the legacy of the original track.
The recreated version, titled Chunari Chunari Let’s Go, features Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur and has been choreographed by Remo D’Souza.
Directed by David Dhawan, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is slated for theatrical release on June 5.
