Gandhinagar, May 17: India finished 11th in the medal standings with 11 medals at the Asian Senior Weightlifting Championships, which concluded in Gandhinagar on Sunday.
India secured one silver and 10 bronze medals during the continental event. The Indian women’s team also finished third in the overall team rankings.
China topped the medal tally with 21 gold, 12 silver and eight bronze medals. North Korea finished second with 30 medals, including 18 gold, 11 silver and one bronze, while Chinese Taipei claimed third place with three gold, seven silver and three bronze medals.

In the women’s team rankings, China secured the top spot with 578 points, followed by Chinese Taipei with 491 points, while India finished third with 487 points.
China also dominated the men’s team rankings with 593 points. India finished fifth in the men’s standings with 379 points.
According to the Indian Weightlifting Federation, which organised the championship, the competition witnessed 25 world records and 27 Asian records being broken.
Ri Suk of North Korea, competing in the 63kg category, was declared the best female lifter of the tournament, while He Yueji of China, competing in the 65kg category, was adjudged the best male lifter.
A total of 30 countries participated in the championships, featuring 172 lifters, including 97 men and 75 women. The event was contested across eight women’s weight categories and seven men’s categories.
