Goa’s Baga beach turns tense after drunk tourists vandalise shack, police detain four

Panaji, May 9: Late-night tension prevailed at Baga Beach after Calangute Police detained four tourists accused of creating a ruckus, vandalising a beach shack, and assaulting a staff member while allegedly intoxicated.

According to the shack owner, the group had arrived during sunset and spent several hours at the establishment before an argument broke out over a request to play Kannada songs. The owner reportedly declined, which allegedly triggered the confrontation.

Following the disagreement, the tourists are said to have turned aggressive, breaking beer bottles and damaging property inside the shack. The situation escalated further when a worker at the establishment was allegedly assaulted during the chaos.

The shack owner alleged that the group refused to pay for the damages and claimed they were associated with the Navy, while also threatening to shut down the business.

No serious injuries were reported, but the disturbance prompted immediate intervention by the Calangute Police, who detained all four individuals following a complaint.

The owner later approached the police station seeking registration of an FIR, accusing the tourists of assault, intimidation, and property damage. He also expressed concern over what he described as a growing number of unruly incidents involving tourists in the coastal belt and called for stricter enforcement action.

Police officials are continuing their inquiry into the incident.
