New Delhi, May 9: The Global Chess League and FIDE have officially announced that the fourth season of the tournament will be hosted in India, further highlighting the country’s growing stature in the global chess landscape. The host city for the upcoming edition is expected to be revealed soon.

The previous season of the league was conducted in Mumbai in December 2025, where Alpine SG Pipers emerged as champions after an impressive campaign.

Since its launch, the Global Chess League has sought to redefine competitive chess through its franchise-based format, featuring rapid matches and mixed-gender teams. The league has been designed to make chess more engaging and accessible for spectators around the world.

Over the past editions, India has witnessed strong fan participation, packed venues and significant digital engagement, reflecting the rising popularity of chess among younger audiences and mainstream sports followers.

Season 4 is expected to once again feature many of the world’s top chess players competing in a high-intensity team format that combines elite-level competition with entertainment-driven storytelling.

Speaking about the announcement, Arkady Dvorkovich said India continues to play a major role in the worldwide growth of chess through both its talented players and passionate fanbase. He noted that the Global Chess League has brought fresh energy to the sport by creating an exciting team-based competition format that appeals to a broad audience.
