Udupi, May 9: With incidents of fire accidents reportedly increasing in commercial establishments and residential complexes within the limits of the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC), and with temperatures continuing to rise in the city, the municipal authorities have urged the public to adopt strict fire safety measures.

In a press release, the commissioner of the Udupi CMC stated that owners of commercial shops, residential complexes, hospitals, industries, scrap shops, and similar establishments must install fire hydrant systems and ensure adequate fire safety arrangements on their premises.

Very good move. I appreciate Udupi Agni Shaamaka department. It must be implemented in Dakshina kannada also. Not only for commercial buildings, also gor residential buildings. There are several bldgs in mangalore the fire sacety has been demolished for Aesthetic modifications, many systems are corroded and inoperable, many buildings have been illegally installed the fire fighting systems. This is not public or builder's mistake. This is only because of improper guidance and negligence of fire department. When the building is constructed, the fire fighting and public adressing systems are. Checked. Then,?????????? No notices, No inspections, No penalties, No up gradation,............. Fire department must issue notices to all commercial places irrective of floors, even for commercial shops, complexes and stores and residential buildings above 15 family apartments and schools. The appropriate system inspections must be carriwd out by fire department every year, failure which very strict action and heavy penalty must be imposed either to the builders( in case it is uner warranty service) or association.
