Mangaluru: Cashew, mango, and jackfruit mela kicks off at Kadri Park

Mangaluru, May 8: A three-day cashew, mango, and jackfruit mela commenced on Friday morning at Kadri Park in the city. The event, going on from May 8 to May 10, opened its doors to the public at 9 am.

The mela has been jointly organized by Raita Kudla Pratishthana, Siri Thotagarike Sangha, and Savayava Krishika Grahaka Balaga. Renowned agriculture journalist Shree Padre inaugurated the event at 11 am.

A major highlight of the mela is the extensive exhibition and sale of value-added cashew products. Visitors can relish fresh cashew apple juice prepared without any added sugar or water. The stalls feature a wide variety of unique delicacies, including cashew apple jaggery, ice cream, pickles, burfi, cashew apple muffins, squash, halwa, sheera, payasam, sprouted cashew nuts, biscuits, and 'Sukaju'.

Furthermore, experts at the event are providing valuable information and guidance to the public regarding cashew apple value addition.

For farming and gardening enthusiasts, the event offers a massive collection of saplings for exhibition and sale. This includes specially curated cashew saplings that can be grown even in urban environments. In addition, over 60 varieties of mango saplings and various types of jackfruit saplings are available for purchase.
