Bahrain, May 7: What can honesty and hard work achieve in a person’s life? Sometimes, they can take one beyond borders and turn dreams into reality.

One such inspiring example is Amarnath Rai, a native of Mangaluru who has spent more than three decades in the island nation of Bahrain. Through sincerity, dedication and relentless hard work, he has shown how life and the future can be built beyond the boundaries of language and nationality.

Nearly 30 years ago, Amarnath Rai left the soil of Mangaluru and travelled thousands of miles to Bahrain in search of a better future. New land, new people and a completely different environment awaited him, but one thing remained unchanged — his unwavering faith in hard work.

His professional journey began as an ordinary employee at Johnson & Johnson. Step by step, through determination and perseverance, he climbed the ladder of success and eventually rose to the position of Country Head in the same organisation. Alongside building a successful career, he actively involved himself in cultural, religious and social organisations, earning the love and respect of thousands by rising above caste, religion and politics. Today, as he turns 60, he is widely admired for leading a meaningful and fulfilled life.

But his story does not end with professional success.

Amarnath Rai also earned recognition as a philanthropist. Along with like-minded people, he engaged himself in religious, cultural and social activities, winning the affection of people across communities. His life is not merely a story of achievement, but one of courage, leadership and humanity.

His success lies not only in the positions he held, but also in his leadership qualities, simplicity, honesty and compassion. The heights he has reached continue to inspire many.

After completing his BSc degree from St Aloysius College in Mangaluru, he began his career in the medical field before moving to Bahrain to build his future.

His strength, endurance, honesty and work ethic found a major opportunity at Johnson & Johnson, where he started as a sales representative and steadily rose through the ranks. During his journey, he not only grew professionally but also mentored and guided many others. The management of the company recognised his commitment, sincerity and capability, which led to his long association with the organisation spanning nearly 25 years. He eventually retired from one of the top positions in the company. Even after retirement, the company continued to utilise his expertise for market expansion, which stands testimony to his credibility and dedication.

Throughout his career, he encountered many opportunities where he could have chosen unethical paths, but he firmly rejected them. He built his professional and personal life without compromising his values.

At one stage in life, he realised that wealth, houses and status alone do not define life. Cooperation, organisation and service to society are equally important. This realisation drew him deeper into religious, social and educational activities.

He actively participated in organisations such as Bahrain Kannada Sangha, Konkan Singers and Indian Club, leaving a strong mark in each. He was also a founding member and later president of the Bahrain chapter of the Bunts association.

During his tenure as president of Bunts Bahrain, he worked for the all-round progress of the community and organised grand cultural programmes by inviting noted personalities such as Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty, Dr Shantaram Shetty and renowned entrepreneur Shashikiran Shetty to Bahrain.

With interests spanning culture, sports, literature, fine arts, theatre and social awareness, Amarnath Rai became known as a key resource person in Bahrain’s Kannada community.

Apart from maintaining close ties with Kannadigas in Bahrain, he also built strong relationships with organisations, entrepreneurs and people from various communities, which became one of his greatest strengths.

Despite being associated with influential personalities, he never displayed arrogance or extravagance. He never chased titles, positions or authority.

Amarnath Rai also served for two years as president of the Bahrain Kannada Sangha, known for being the first Kannada Bhavan constructed abroad with government support. During his tenure, he identified and honoured achievers from various fields in Karnataka by inviting them to Bahrain. Actors, writers, artists and journalists were all given platforms through the organisation. He continuously organised programmes that upheld human values and worked tirelessly to mobilise resources for the growth of the Sangha, dedicating his valuable time for the cause.

His personality itself is considered attractive. A good singer and speaker, he believes in speaking only when necessary. He knows when to speak and when silence is more meaningful.

Known affectionately as “Amaranna” among friends, he is regarded as a man with no enemies and a person who treasures friendships deeply. He has a vast network of friends spread across Bahrain, Dubai, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. Maintaining and nurturing friendships is an art, and Amarnath Rai has mastered it. From childhood friends to recent acquaintances, he has maintained constant contact and valued every relationship regardless of where they live in the world.

Rather than chasing money alone, he chose to live with the aim of contributing something meaningful to society. As a result, achievements, success, appreciation and friendships have never allowed him to feel alone.

Even today, he continues to live with the happiness of yesterday, the contentment of today and the hope of tomorrow.

After retiring from Johnson & Johnson, he launched his own venture, Arjunadeep Cleaning and Maintenance. He continues to remain active in social service activities and has extended support to hundreds of people in distress.

Speaking about his family, his wife Snehalatha, a postgraduate in biosciences, has been a major pillar of strength behind him. His daughter Deepali Rai, an MBA graduate, works as a project manager at a reputed company in Bengaluru, while his son-in-law Harshith Rai serves as a regional manager at Seiko. His son Arjun Rai completed his master’s degree in Data Analytics from San Jose University in San Francisco.

Amarnath Rai has now turned 60, but his enthusiasm remains youthful. Amidst a happy family life, achievements and friendships, his desire to continue achieving more makes him truly unique. Music, friendship and happiness remain the true rhythm of his life.

As Amarnath Rai completes 60 meaningful years guided by honesty, hard work and humanity, the Kannadiga community in Bahrain wishes him continued happiness, peace, prosperity and fulfilment, and hopes that he continues to serve society in even greater ways in the years ahead.
