Mumbai, May 3: Television actor Aashiesh Sharrma believes the small screen is undergoing a significant transformation, with storytelling formats coming full circle to embrace shorter, more defined narratives.
In a recent interaction, Sharrma noted that television is gradually returning to finite storytelling formats, a structure that was once common but later gave way to long-running shows. According to him, changing audience preferences are driving this shift, as viewers increasingly favour limited series with a clear beginning and conclusion.

“Television has come full circle. Earlier, we had finite storytelling formats, and now we are returning to that structure. Audiences today prefer limited series with a clear beginning and end. This shift is encouraging better storytelling and more meaningful content,” he said.
On the work front, Sharrma is currently seen portraying a transgender character in the drama Khejri. He shared that his decision to take up the role was deeply personal and rooted in a story that had stayed with him for years.
The project is based on a short story titled “Sanjha,” which he first encountered through his father. The narrative, he explained, left a lasting impression due to its honest depiction of societal realities and emotions.
“What stood out to me was that stories about trans individuals are often told from a subjective lens. This was the first time I came across a narrative that felt like a pure human journey—open, honest, and deeply personal,” he said.
Sharrma added that he felt an immediate connection with both the story and the character when he read the script. For him, the narrative goes beyond a single identity and speaks to a broader human experience.
“This is not just the story of one trans person; it is a universal story about identity and belonging. Every individual searches for their place in society, and this story reflects that journey,” he said.
