Blast damages railway track in Patiala; suspected bomber killed

Daijiworld Media Network - Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Apr 28: A railway track in Punjab’s Patiala district was damaged following a late-night blast near the Shambhu-Ambala freight corridor, with police recovering a body from the site and launching a detailed investigation.

According to police, the explosion occurred around 10 pm on Monday near a track used primarily for freight trains. Senior officials, including the Deputy Inspector General of Police and Patiala SSP Varun Sharma, rushed to the spot soon after the incident.

Preliminary findings suggest that the person attempting to plant an explosive device died during the blast. The intensity of the explosion reportedly disfigured the body, which was recovered near the track. No other casualties or major property damage were reported.

Police said teams from the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force, along with forensic experts, are examining the site. Investigators have collected evidence, including a SIM card, as part of the probe.

“We are gathering scientific evidence and have initiated a technical investigation. We hope to unravel the entire conspiracy soon,” SSP Sharma said.

The incident comes months after a similar blast on a railway track in Sirhind in January, which had left a loco pilot injured. While unverified claims had linked that incident to the banned outfit Khalistan Zindabad Force, authorities had not confirmed any such involvement.

Officials said the current investigation is ongoing, with multiple agencies working together to determine the cause and possible links behind the explosion.
