Mumbai, Apr 27: A series of political controversies, sharp remarks and lighter moments have recently drawn attention across Maharashtra, reflecting the state’s dynamic political landscape.
Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLA Sanjay Gaikwad from Buldhana has once again landed in controversy after allegedly abusing and threatening the publisher of the book “Shivaji Kon Hota”. The remarks sparked widespread criticism, following which Gaikwad expressed regret, stating that if his words hurt sentiments, he apologises. He clarified that he has no objection to the book but expects respectful reference to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He also apologised for his offensive remarks against the publisher’s family.
In Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) corporator Abhijit Desai, the party’s lone representative in the civic body, made headlines for his assertive stance during a discussion. Responding to criticism from ruling members, he said that though he is alone, he is strong, and reminded others that all leaders have emerged from the ideological legacy of Bal Thackeray.

Meanwhile, internal murmurs were reported within the Bharatiya Janata Party after the announcement of an 80-member district executive in Kalyan by district president Nandu Parab. A sarcastic message circulating among party workers suggested that “special vision” was required to recognise the contributions of those selected.
On the political front, discussions are ongoing over a vacant seat in the Legislative Council, where the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is likely to secure a win. While allies Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) have extended support to Uddhav Thackeray, it remains unclear whether he is willing to contest. Other aspirants, including leaders close to Aditya Thackeray, are also being discussed. Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar stated that if Thackeray is not interested, the seat should go to Congress, indicating ongoing political negotiations.
In a lighter moment in Thane, senior poet Mahesh Keluskar brought humour to a book release event by jokingly asking whether the ceremonial coconut presented to him actually had water inside, drawing laughter from the audience.
Meanwhile, in Belapur, concerns have been raised over continued illegal roadside parking despite the construction of a multi-level parking facility. Residents have sarcastically remarked that the inaction of traffic authorities, led by Deputy Commissioner Tirupati Kakade, has effectively “blessed” the illegal parking situation.
These incidents together highlight the mix of controversy, political manoeuvring and public sentiment shaping discourse in the state.
