New Delhi, Apr 26: Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary D Raja on Saturday alleged that a growing number of people in the country view the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as a threat to their culture and way of life.
Addressing a public gathering, Raja said concerns are being expressed by various communities over the protection of their cultural identity under the current political environment.
“People see the BJP as a threat to their culture,” he said, adding that the party’s policies and actions have led to apprehensions among different sections of society.

He emphasised that India’s strength lies in its diversity and pluralistic traditions, and called for safeguarding constitutional values that uphold inclusiveness and secularism.
Raja also urged opposition parties to come together to counter what he described as divisive politics, stressing the need for collective efforts to protect democratic institutions and cultural harmony.
The CPI leader further said that attempts to impose uniformity in culture or ideology could undermine the country’s social fabric and lead to increased polarisation.
His remarks come at a time of heightened political activity, with debates intensifying over issues related to cultural identity, governance and constitutional values.
There was no immediate response from the BJP to Raja’s comments.
The statement is part of a broader criticism by opposition leaders, who have been raising concerns over policies and narratives they claim could impact India’s diverse cultural landscape.
