Mumbai, Apr 22: A tense situation unfolded in Mumbai’s Worli area after a political rally led to severe traffic congestion, prompting an angry commuter to confront Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan and police officials on the spot.
The disruption followed a protest march organised by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), part of the Mahayuti alliance, targeting the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), including the Congress, over the recent rejection of the Women’s Reservation Bill at the Centre due to insufficient majority support.
The march, scheduled to begin at 5 pm, was planned from Jambhori Maidan to the Dome, passing through the densely populated Worli area, including the BDD chawls, which already experiences heavy traffic flow. However, delays in the start of the rally led to long traffic snarls, leaving commuters stranded for hours.

Amid the gridlock, a woman trying to pick up her child from school left her vehicle and walked into the rally area, visibly upset over the disruption. She directly confronted Mahajan, questioning the inconvenience caused to the public.
“There are hundreds of people waiting. There is an empty ground there!” she reportedly shouted, urging organisers to move the gathering elsewhere and clear the roads. Her protest escalated as she demanded immediate dispersal of the crowd and raised her voice against the situation.
The woman also expressed anger towards Mumbai Police personnel who were attempting to manage the situation, insisting on speaking to senior officials.
Police later intervened and escorted her aside, attempting to calm the situation and address her concerns.
A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, reigniting debate over the impact of large political rallies on traffic movement and public inconvenience in densely populated urban areas.
