Mangaluru, Apr 21: The inauguration of the ‘Mankam Motiyam-2’ children’s summer camp, organised by the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Akademi in association with Infant Mary Church, Bajodi, and with the support of Mandd Sobhann, was held on April 20, at the Infant Mary Sabha Bhavan, Bajodi.

The programme was presided over by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Akademi president Joachim Stany Alvares. In his introductory address, he stressed the need for Konkani children to learn the Konkani language and said that the Akademi encourages such camps. He also urged parents to provide such opportunities for their children.

Renowned writer and poet Andrew L D’Cunha, who was the chief guest, said that pearls and corals lie deep in the ocean and gain value when brought out. He remarked that the camp serves as a platform to string together these scattered pearls, enabling them to shine like a beautiful ornament, and conveyed his best wishes.

Among those present were parish priest of Infant Mary Church, Bajodi, Fr Dominic Vas, vice-president Vincy Pinto Angelore, secretary Janet, Asunta Mendonsa, and other dignitaries. The camp will provide training in Konkani language, drama, singing, and dance. It will be held over three days from April 20 to 22.

Academy members Naveen Lobo and Ronald Crasta were also present. The programme was compered by Irene.
