Mangaluru, Apr 21: The Nursing Education Unit (NEU), Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, in collaboration with first-year MSc Nursing students, organized a state level Executive Development Programme (EDP) on 'Precision Research: Methodological Design to Meaningful Discussion' aligned with SDG 4 to enhance quality education, on April 16th at Avishkar Hall, AB Shetty Dental College, Mangaluru.
A total of 74 delegates from 20 colleges actively participated in the programme. The event commenced with registration and pre-test, followed by the inauguration which was graced by Dr Animesh Jain, Dr Maria Nelliyanil, and Prof (Dr) Fatima D’Silva, principal, NUINS. Prof (Dr) Jacintha Veigas, organizing secretary and coordinator, NEU, along with Suviksha Bhandary, student organizing secretary, were present on the dais.









The programme focused on key areas such as mixed methods and epidemiological research designs, sampling techniques and sample size estimation, critical interpretation of tabulated findings, and effective approaches to writing discussion. The sessions were delivered with practical insights and were followed by group activities that enhanced active participation and experiential learning.
The resource persons for the programme included Dr Animesh Jain, professor, department of community medicine, KMC Mangalore, Dr Maria Nelliyanil, professor, department of community medicine, AJ Medical College and Research Centre Mangalore, Dr Neevan D’Souza, professor department of biostatistics, Nitte Allied Health Sciences, and Dr Sudhir Prabhu H, Professor & head department of community medicine, Father Muller Medical College Mangalore who shared their expertise and guided participants through various aspects of research methodology.
Pre-test and post-test evaluations were conducted to assess the effectiveness of the programme. The improvement in mean percentage score of knowledge (63%-88%) is suggestive of the effectiveness of the programme. Prof (Dr) Jacintha Veigas welcomed the gathering and principal Prof (Dr) Fatima D’Silva highlighted the importance of precision in research. The programme concluded with a valedictory session, during which certificates were distributed to all the participants and organizers in recognition of their active involvement and contribution.
The organizing committee ensured the smooth conduct of the event. The delegates appreciated the well-organized sessions, relevance of the topics, expertise of the resource persons, and the overall arrangements including hospitality and logistics, contributing to the success of the programme.
