Mumbai, Apr 19: Darshan Kumar, younger brother of T-Series founder Gulshan Kumar, passed away in Delhi on April 18 at the age of 70, marking the end of a quiet but significant presence in the Indian music industry.
News of his demise prompted condolences from several members of the entertainment world. Singer Mika Singh was among the first to confirm the news on social media, paying tribute to Darshan Kumar’s contributions and support for emerging talent.

In his message, Mika Singh described him as a kind and supportive personality who helped launch and encourage many singers during his association with the music industry. He also offered prayers for his peaceful soul, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.
Darshan Kumar had been associated with T-Series, the company founded by his brother Gulshan Kumar in 1983. While the label later grew into one of the world’s largest music companies under the leadership of Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, Darshan Kumar maintained a relatively low profile despite holding a senior position in the earlier years.
He largely stayed away from public attention, making rare appearances over the years. One of his last known public sightings was in 2025, when devotional singer Mani Ladla shared a photograph following a personal meeting with him.
The legacy of T-Series traces back to Gulshan Kumar, who transformed India’s music landscape by making film music and devotional songs widely accessible through affordable cassettes. However, his life was tragically cut short in 1997 when he was killed in a shooting incident outside a temple in Mumbai’s Andheri West.
Darshan Kumar’s passing marks another chapter in the history of the family closely associated with the evolution of India’s modern music industry.
