Mangaluru, Apr 17: In a bid to secure bail through deception, a man has been arrested in Mangaluru for allegedly submitting fake Aadhaar and land ownership documents before a court in Bhatkal.

The accused, Mahesh (42), a resident of Maroli in Mangaluru, was arrested in Mangaluru by Bhatkal Town police.

The case surfaced on June 30, 2025, at the Additional Civil Court and JMFC Court in Bhatkal, when Mahesh and his associates appeared to furnish bail surety in a case linked to the Bhatkal Rural police station.

During scrutiny, the Aadhaar card attached to the bail documents was verified through the court’s Surety Management System and found to be forged. On realising this, the accused fled the court premises.

Following a complaint by the court’s chief administrative officer, Chetan M Chandavarkar, a case was registered at the Bhatkal Town police station.

Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and traced Mahesh to Maroli in Mangaluru, arresting him on April 15.

Police said two more accused are involved in the case and efforts are under way to apprehend them.
