Doha, Apr 16: The players’ auction for the much-anticipated MCC Qatar Premier League (MPL) Season 1 was successfully held on April 10, at ICC Mumbai Hall. The tournament is scheduled to take place on April 24, at the Old Ideal Indian School Ground.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Emcee Carol Rosly Quadras, who provided a brief introduction to the tournament and set the tone for the evening. The programme began with an invocation seeking divine blessings for the auction and the upcoming tournament, led by cultural secretary Primal Pinto.
Distinguished dignitaries were then invited to the dais, including chief guest and MCC Qatar founder member & advisor Jerald D’Mello, president & MPL chairman Denzil Christine Lobo, vice president Ryan Renjar, and sports secretary Shameen Lewis.
Addressing the gathering, president and MPL chairman Denzil Christine Lobo delivered the welcome note, highlighting the vision and inception of MPL Season 1. He expressed his gratitude to the MPL committee for their dedicated efforts in organising the league on a grand scale. He also extended thanks to the executive committee, advisors, members, and team owners for their unwavering support in making the tournament a reality.
A major highlight of the evening was the official trophy launch by chief guest Jerald D’Mello, presented in a creative and engaging manner that was widely appreciated by the audience. This was followed by a group photo session with MCC Qatar’s executive committee, advisors, and attendees.
The emcee then introduced the four participating teams along with their respective owners:
• MCC Moodubelle – owner: Mary Mendonca
• MCC BT Gang – owner: Prashanth D’Mello
• MCC Kudla Stars – owner: Pradeep Mendonca
• MCC Royals – owner: Stanly D’Souza
The team owners were felicitated with flowers by MCC Qatar executive members. Subsequently, the owners, along with their managers and icon players, were invited to the auction table:

• MCC BT Gang – manager: Naveen D’Souza | icon player: Venil D’Souza

The emcee explained the auction rules to the teams and attendees before commencing the much-awaited auction process. The auction was conducted by Carol Rosly Quadras, assisted by general secretary Renzil Jaison D’Souza and Rolwin Quadras.
A total of 58 players were registered for the auction and were successfully drafted across the four teams, promising a competitive and exciting tournament ahead.
The event also featured the draw of lots for the match schedule, adding to the excitement among teams and supporters.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the emcee, acknowledging all those who contributed to the success of the auction event.
With the successful completion of the players’ auction, MCC Qatar and the MPL committee are now gearing up for the inaugural season of MPL, promising high expectations, thrilling matches, and competitive cricket.
