Bengaluru, Apr 15: In two shocking incidents of fraud reported from Karnataka, police have booked a man for allegedly cheating multiple women under the pretext of marriage and arrested another for posing as an IAS officer to dupe a businessman of Rs 41 lac.
In the first case from Jigani, an engineer identified as Ravi, a native of Chikkanayakanahalli, has been accused of marrying two women and getting engaged to another while falsely claiming to be unmarried. The case came to light after his first wife lodged a complaint, prompting police to register charges of cheating and bigamy.

According to the complaint, Ravi married her in January 2024 but soon began exhibiting suspicious behaviour, including alleged dowry demands and inappropriate conduct. While she was pregnant, he reportedly began searching for another bride.
In October 2024, he allegedly got engaged to another woman, but the plan was exposed after his first wife alerted the woman’s family, leading to a confrontation. Despite this, he is accused of marrying yet another woman in December 2025. The accused is currently absconding, and a search is under way.
In a separate case, police in Bengaluru arrested Mithun K S, a resident of Chikkamagaluru, for allegedly impersonating an IAS officer and cheating a medical shop owner.
Police said Mithun gained the victim’s trust by promising a lucrative government contract to supply medicines under the National Health Mission. He allegedly collected Rs 36 lac in cash and Rs 5 lac via bank transfer as commission.
The fraud was uncovered after the promised contract failed to materialise and enquiries revealed that the accused had no links with government services. He has been arrested and booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Investigations in both cases are ongoing, with police probing possible wider links and additional victims.
