Maharashtra to set up premier music institute to honour Asha Bhosle’s legacy

Mumbai, Apr 14: The Maharashtra government has announced plans to establish a premier music institute to honour the vision of legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, following her demise on April 12.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared the update during a state cabinet meeting, stating that the government is committed to fulfilling the singer’s long-standing dream of creating an institution dedicated to music.

Bhosle had earlier submitted a proposal for such an institute, and the state administration has now decided to move forward with the project as a tribute to her legacy and contribution to Indian music.

The cabinet meeting, attended by Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar and other ministers, began with a condolence motion read by Chief Secretary Rajesh Agarwal. Members observed a moment of silence in memory of the iconic singer.

The proposed institute is expected to serve as a centre of excellence for music education, preserving and promoting India’s rich musical heritage while nurturing future talent.
