Mangaluru, Apr 13: A major fire broke out at a car alteration centre in Falnir in the city early on Monday April 13, causing damage to property worth lacs of rupees.

The incident is reported to have occurred in the morning. Three cars that had been kept in the shop for alteration were completely gutted in the fire. Valuable equipment and spare parts in the shop were also destroyed.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. Locals, who noticed thick smoke billowing from the shop, immediately alerted the fire department. Personnel from the Pandeshwar fire station rushed to the spot and, after strenuous efforts, managed to bring the fire under control.

As there was no one present in the shop at the time of the incident, no casualties were reported. The exact extent of the loss is yet to be ascertained.
