Karkala, Apr 12: A sudden blaze broke out on Saturday afternoon at Umikal hill near the popular tourist destination Parashurama Theme Park close to Bailur in Karkala, triggering alarm among residents and visitors in the vicinity.
The fire reportedly erupted around 12 noon and spread rapidly within minutes, engulfing nearby trees, vegetation and dry bushes.
Sources said a similar fire incident had occurred in the same area last year. However, the flames did not spread to the main premises of the theme park, and no casualties or damage to structures were reported.
On receiving information, Fire and Emergency Services personnel, along with the police, rushed to the spot and launched an immediate firefighting operation.
The operation was led by Fire Station Officer Albert Monish, with Assistant Station Officer Chandrashekhar and team members Harishchandra Shettigar, Achyut Karkera, Harish and Basavaraj, who worked tirelessly to bring the blaze under complete control.
“The timely response helped prevent the fire from spreading further,” officials said, adding that the situation was brought under control before it could escalate.
The prompt action by the fire department brought relief to local residents.
Authorities have initiated an inquiry to ascertain the cause of the fire.
