Mangaluru, Apr 12: An orientation programme for grade 9 students and their parents was conducted on April 7, in the school hall of St Agnes School CBSE, Bendore.

The session aimed to help parents and students gain clarity on academic expectations while providing a comprehensive understanding of the revised curriculum, diverse learning styles and awareness about HPV prevention and health.

The programme commenced on a serene note with a prayer song led by the students, invoking positivity and calmness. This was followed by the formal welcome address delivered by Tr Yashashvini.

The esteemed resource persons for the day were then felicitated. Dr Shwetha Kamath, AIEF master trainer from Shree Gujarati Eng Med High School, was warmly welcomed with a potted plant by Tr Nisha. Dr Chaithra, an administrative medical officer, was felicitated by the principal, Sr Maria Sarika AC. Nurse Renuka was also welcomed with a potted plant by Tr Sumitra symbolising growth and nurturing.

The first session was conducted by Dr Shwetha Kamath. Focusing on the theme of curriculum and learning styles, she also touched upon the concept of life’s purpose encouraging students to understand their strengths and align them with meaningful goals. She guided students on how to transform their “inner critic” into an “inner coach” to develop valuable success habits.

Addressing both parents and students, she underlined the vital role of parental support in a child’s learning journey. Dr Shwetha also stressed values such as optimism, resilience, patience and taking responsibility for one’s actions motivating students to cultivate a positive mindset. Drawing examples from accomplished personalities including young achievers she illustrated how discipline, innovation and clarity of thought contribute to success.

The academic overview session followed presented by Tr Josephine and Tr Janet. They provided a clear outline of the grade 9 curriculum including subjects, examination patterns, periodic assessments and overall academic expectations. The session helped parents and students gain clarity on the structure and demands of the new academic year.

The next segment featured Dr Chaithra an administrative medical officer with over 11 years of experience and a master trainer in areas such as routine immunisation, menstrual health and hygiene and infant and young child feeding. She conducted an orientation session on understanding HPV awareness and prevention.

She highlighted the importance of vaccination, discussed the Indian scenario of cervical cancer and emphasized preventive healthcare measures. Her session was highly informative and created awareness about an important aspect of adolescent health.

The programme also included a keynote address by the principal Sr Maria Sarika AC who spoke about the importance of values, discipline and character building in shaping a student’s future. She encouraged parents to actively support their children and emphasized holistic development beyond academics. This was followed by the vote of thanks delivered by Tr Linette expressing gratitude to all the dignitaries, resource persons, parents and participants for their presence and support.

The session concluded with the viewing of answer scripts by grade 9 students in their respective classrooms allowing parents to understand their child’s academic performance better. The orientation programme proved to be a meaningful and enriching experience equipping students and parents with valuable insights into academics, personal development and health awareness while fostering a stronger partnership between home and school.
