Mangaluru, Apr 10: The body of Mohiddin Nasir was found in a murdered condition in the river waters near the Old Port area of the city on Wednesday. In connection with the case, police have arrested two accused—Deepak Kumar Karai from Odisha and Mohammad Bahuwa from Bihar.
Near the spot where Naseer’s body was discovered, jetty construction work was underway. Bloodstains were found on a bike and a scooter parked near a barricade made of metal sheets. An iron rod found nearby also had bloodstains. There were also visible drag marks at the scene, indicating that the body had been moved.

Before the body was found, two individuals had reportedly approached a local resident early Wednesday morning, stating that someone had stolen their mobile phones. They described the person as wearing white shoes, grey pants, and a black shirt, and enquired if he had been seen in the area. They later proceeded towards the jetty construction site. Suspicion had arisen that these very individuals could be involved in the murder.
“We have arrested two persons based on the evidence collected. At this stage, it cannot be confirmed whether the deceased Mohiddin Nasir had stolen the accused’s mobile phones or whether that was the motive behind the murder. The investigation is in progress, and clarity on the motive will emerge only after its completion,” police said.
A case has been registered at the South police station in the city.
