Mangaluru: No shortage of auto gas, public urged not to heed rumours

Mangaluru, Apr 9: The department of food, civil supplies and consumer affairs has stated that the government has taken note of the situation where auto owners and drivers have been standing in long queues in front of auto gas bunks over the past few days based on false information about a shortage of gas stock at various bunks across the state.

The department has clarified that the public need not panic and should not pay attention to such rumours. It stated that only a minor shortage has been observed in some private auto gas supply agencies, and steps have been taken to address this by increasing supply through government-owned oil companies such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum.

Earlier, these three companies supplied an average of 56.67 metric tonnes of auto gas. However, to meet the current demand, the supply has been significantly increased, and at present, an average of 83.58 metric tonnes of gas is being supplied daily to retail outlets, the department said.

According to supply data from April 2 to April 6, the supply has remained stable. On April 2, 87.78 metric tonnes were supplied, followed by 86.05 metric tonnes on April 3, 84.80 metric tonnes on April 4, a peak of 94.11 metric tonnes on April 5, and 83.58 metric tonnes on April 6.

The department has urged auto owners and drivers across the state not to believe in rumours or panic by queuing up at gas bunks, assuring that the supply of gas is being carried out systematically and requesting the public to cooperate with the department.
