Drug offender detained under PIT NDPS Act in Udupi

Udupi, Apr 8: A 22-year-old accused, identified as Faizal from Banglegudde in Karkala town police limits, has been detained under the PIT NDPS Act for repeatedly engaging in drug trafficking and sale, posing a threat to public health.

Based on a report submitted by the Karkala Town police inspector, the Udupi superintendent of police forwarded the proposal to the inspector general of police, Western Range, Mangaluru, seeking a detention order. After reviewing the cases registered against the accused, the detention order was issued on April 7.

Following the order, the Karkala Town police inspector executed the detention and took the accused into custody on April 7. He has been lodged in the central prison in Dharwad.

Police sources stated that a total of five cases related to drug trafficking and sale have been registered against the accused. Of these, two cases have resulted in conviction, two are under trial in court, and one case remains under investigation.
