New Delhi, Apr 7: The National Commission for Women has given actress Nora Fatehi a final opportunity to appear in person in connection with the controversy surrounding the song “Sarke Chunar Teri”, fixing April 27 as the next date of hearing.
The commission had taken suo motu cognisance of the issue over allegedly objectionable lyrics and held a hearing on April 6. While Fatehi’s counsel appeared before the panel, it declined to accept representation through a lawyer and directed her to appear personally.
The hearing was chaired by NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, who raised concerns over the song’s content, stating that it undermines the dignity of women.
During the proceedings, lyricist Raqueeb Alam, director Prem, and representatives of KVN Productions appeared before the commission. They submitted a written apology, acknowledging that the song had a “negative impact on society,” and assured the panel that they would undertake initiatives for women’s empowerment and submit a report within three months.
The commission has also summoned actor Sanjay Dutt to appear on April 8 in connection with the matter.
“Sarke Chunar Teri”, a track from the upcoming Kannada film KD: The Devil starring Dhruv Sarja, had sparked widespread backlash over its explicit lyrics after its release on YouTube. The song has since been taken down following the controversy.
The film is slated for theatrical release on April 30.
