Virajpet, Apr 6: A Kerala IT professional who went missing while trekking in the dense forests of Tadiandamol, Kodagu’s highest peak, has been found safe after three tense days, ending a large-scale search operation involving forest officials, police, locals, and advanced technology.
Sharanya (36), from Nadannapuram near Kochi, an experienced trekker with over 15 years of expeditions across India, set out alone on April 2. While returning, she lost her way and became stranded in thick forest cover. “She managed to contact the homestay owner shortly after realising she was lost, but her phone switched off moments later, making it extremely difficult to locate her,” officials said.

Forest minister Eshwar Khandre immediately intervened, instructing senior officials to deploy extra teams and cutting-edge technology for the search. The operation included drones, thermal drones, and a dog squad to cover areas inaccessible by foot.
Sharanya was located Sunday morning in a remote forested area. Officials noted that her trekking experience helped her remain calm and survive. She has received first aid and is undergoing further medical evaluation.
Her relieved family, who had appealed to Karnataka deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar for urgent intervention during his Kerala campaign, expressed immense gratitude. Authorities reiterated the importance of following safety protocols while trekking in Tadiandamol, a 1,748-metre peak in the Western Ghats, known for steep slopes, dense vegetation, and poor mobile connectivity.
