Washington, Apr 6: The United States Secret Service on Sunday said it is investigating reports of overnight gunfire near Lafayette Park, located opposite the White House.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported and no suspects were found after a search operation conducted in and around the park shortly after midnight. Despite the incident, activities at the White House continued as normal, though security in the area was heightened.
US President Donald Trump was present at the White House over the weekend. There was no immediate official response from the administration regarding the incident.

Officials said Lafayette Park, which is currently fenced off due to ongoing renovations, was thoroughly searched as part of the investigation. The Secret Service is coordinating with the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia and the United States Park Police in the probe.
In a related past incident, two National Guard soldiers were shot near the White House in November 2025, resulting in one death and another critically injured. The suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national, was later apprehended. Authorities had stated that he acted alone, though his motive remained unclear.
