Bengaluru, Apr 6: Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru handed a 43-run defeat to Chennai Super Kings at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, marking CSK’s third consecutive loss in the ongoing Indian Premier League season.

Despite the defeat, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side created a unique world record during the 251-run chase. As many as nine CSK batters hit at least one six in a single T20 innings — the first such instance in cricket history. Only Ayush Mhatre and Matt Henry failed to clear the ropes.

Interestingly, none of the CSK batters hit more than two sixes, with Sarfaraz Khan and Jamie Overton managing two each. In total, CSK struck 11 sixes in their innings.

Earlier, RCB had posted a massive 250 for 3 in 20 overs, powered by explosive knocks from Tim David and skipper Rajat Patidar. David smashed an unbeaten 70 off just 25 balls, including eight sixes and three fours, while Patidar remained not out on 48 off 19 deliveries, hitting six sixes and a boundary.

RCB’s innings saw all five of their contributing batters hit at least one six, taking their total to 19 maximums.

Overall, the match witnessed 14 different batters hitting at least one six — only the second such instance in T20 history. The previous occurrence came during a Big Bash League 2020-21 clash between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder.
