Hyderabad, Apr 2: Police have intensified their crackdown on food adulteration, seizing a large quantity of ice and lassi candies allegedly mixed with harmful chemicals during a raid on an ice cream unit.

The operation was carried out by the Commissioner’s Taskforce (Golconda Zone Team) along with Mehdipatnam Police Station at Ahmed Nagar in the First Lancer area. Authorities apprehended the unit’s owner, Syed Musharafuddin, for allegedly producing and distributing the products under unhygienic conditions. The seized materials are valued at approximately Rs 5.44 lac.

Police reported that the accused had been deliberately using harmful chemical substances to maximise profits. The seizure included thousands of ice candies and lassi candies, along with raw materials such as curd, sugar, citric acid, sucrose, and equipment used in production.

Ande Srinivas Rao, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force), confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Mehdipatnam Police Station.

This action is part of a broader effort by authorities to curb food adulteration across the city. The Government of Telangana has taken serious note of rising cases, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announcing plans to introduce a dedicated enforcement mechanism. The proposed system is expected to mirror initiatives like EAGLE and HYDRAA, which target drug-related offences and illegal encroachments.

Hyderabad Police commissioner V. C. Sajjanar has issued a stern warning against food adulteration, calling it a dangerous threat to public health. He emphasised that such practices compromise everyday essentials and pose serious risks to consumers.

He also highlighted the role of the specialised ‘H-FAST’ team, which has been actively targeting adulteration networks.
