Trump to attend Supreme Court hearing on birthright citizenship

Washington, Apr 1: US President Donald Trump is set to attend a Supreme Court hearing on birthright citizenship on Wednesday, becoming the first sitting president to be present during oral arguments at the nation’s highest court.

According to the White House schedule, Trump plans to sit in as the Supreme Court of the United States hears his administration’s appeal against a lower court ruling that struck down his executive order restricting birthright citizenship.

The order, signed at the start of his second term, seeks to deny automatic citizenship to children born in the US to parents who are in the country illegally or on temporary visas. The move challenges the long-standing interpretation of the 14th Amendment, which has been understood to grant citizenship to nearly all individuals born on American soil.

Speaking to reporters, Trump indicated he intended to attend the hearing in person, saying, “I think so, I do believe.”

While presidents have historically interacted with the court in various roles, none are known to have attended oral arguments while in office. Trump had earlier considered attending a separate hearing last year but opted against it to avoid distraction.

The citizenship restrictions are part of his broader immigration policy agenda, though they remain on hold following multiple court challenges.

A final ruling from the Supreme Court on the matter is expected by early summer.
