Mangaluru, Mar 30: In a key development in the Arif murder case, the investigation has been transferred to the assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Central Crime Branch (CCB), police commissioner stated.

According to the commissioner, six accused persons directly involved in the commission of the offence have been identified. However, their continuous movement has posed challenges to the police teams in apprehending them immediately.

During the course of the investigation, police teams, while reconstructing the entire conspiracy and sequence of events, have also identified the involvement of additional persons. Certain individuals suspected of assisting the accused—either in committing the offence or in facilitating their escape and concealment—are currently being interrogated. If their involvement is established, they will be arrested.

The commissioner further reiterated that anyone found facilitating the accused in any manner will be liable for punishment under Section 249(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for harbouring offenders. The provision will be invoked without hesitation, as has been done in similar cases in the past, the statement added.
