Bengaluru, Mar 25: The Women’s Cell of St Joseph’s University, Bengaluru, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organised a thought-provoking talk on Women Empowerment on March 17 at the University Auditorium. The session was delivered by Nazneen Banu, IDSE, a distinguished serving officer of the Indian Defence Service of Engineers (IDSE).
Addressing a gathering of students, faculty members, and senior university leaders, Nazneen Banu shared her inspiring personal and professional journey, while drawing attention to the severe underrepresentation of women in the IDSE field. Her address highlighted the many social and structural barriers women continue to face, not only in the workforce but also within the family and broader society.

Reflecting on her upbringing, Banu spoke candidly about being born in a rural, socio-culturally conservative setting in Bihar’s Chhapra district, where girls’ education was often not given importance. She remarked, “There was a collective conditioning of what a girl should be,” underlining how societal expectations often limit women’s aspirations from an early age.
Despite these challenges, Banu’s own journey stands as a powerful example of courage, resilience, and determination. She encouraged young women to pursue their ambitions with confidence and persistence, emphasising that barriers often fade in the face of hard work and strong resolve. “If you are willing to put in the effort, no field is out of reach,” she said, adding that success is shaped not by circumstance, but by self-belief, integrity, perseverance, and determination.
The session deeply resonated with the audience and served as an inspiring call to young women to dream beyond limitations and boldly chart their own paths. The programme was well received and appreciated by all present for its relevance, motivational value, and powerful message of empowerment.
