Kaup: Two inter-state burglars arrested, Rs 19.05 lac recovered from Divakar Shetty house

Kaup, March 7: Kaup police have arrested two inter-state criminals in connection with the January 30 burglary at the residence of Congress leader Divakar Shetty, recovering valuables worth Rs 19.05 lac.

The accused have been identified as Esakki Raja (28) and his accomplice Nambi Raja (23) from Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The theft occurred while the Shetty family had temporarily vacated their Kotalkatte home in Uliyaragoli village to travel to Mumbai.

Police said the burglars broke open the main door and looted silver items, 30 grams of melted gold, watches, and cash from the prayer room and bedroom cupboards.

'

“This was a professional inter-state gang operation. The main culprits have been arrested, but three other key suspects from Tamil Nadu are still at large,” police said.

Cases against the accused have also been registered with police stations in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Udupi SP Hariram Shankar, with additional SP Sudhakar S Naik and Karkala DySP S Vijayaprasad overseeing the investigation. Kaup Circle Inspector Azmat Ali G, along with police staff Tejaswi, Shubhakara, Mohammad Rafiq, Narayana, Mohan Chandra, Raghu, Paduvari police station Rajesh, Shirva station officers Dayanand Prabhu and Anwar Ali, and Kaup circle staff Sharanappa and Jeevan, as well as drivers Jagadish, Dinesh, and Nitin from the CDR division, conducted the operation.

Police confirmed, “The recovered property has been secured. We are continuing investigations to track the remaining suspects and ensure full recovery of all stolen items.”
