Kaup, Jan 30: Burglars broke into the residence of Divakar Shetty, former president of the Dakshina Kannada Milk Producers’ Union, and decamped with cash worth several lacs of rupees on the night of Thursday, January 29.

According to the police, Divakar Shetty was away in Mumbai attending a family function and had entrusted the responsibility of overseeing his house to municipal councillor Suresh Sherigar. The burglary occurred while Suresh Sherigar was asleep on the upper floor of the house. Masked miscreants allegedly broke open the doors and carried out the theft.

The burglars also vandalised the CCTV cameras installed at the house, apparently to destroy evidence. Kaup police rushed to the spot soon after receiving the information and have launched an investigation. Fingerprint experts were also deployed to examine the crime scene.
