Mysuru, Mar 4: Mayuravarma Cultural Foundation will organise a seminar titled ‘Women in History’ on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 4 pm on the first floor of the Mysore Association.
Though women in earlier times were largely confined to their homes, history offers numerous examples of how they efficiently managed household responsibilities and rose to the occasion during challenging times. Their silent yet significant contributions to the development of villages and the nation remain immense. From safeguarding the health of family members to preserving religious and cultural traditions, their role has been remarkable. In matters of language and cultural continuity too, women have always held primary responsibility.

When it came to defending the nation, women have made unforgettable contributions. While managing homes and raising children, many also stood shoulder to shoulder in the defence of the country. From mythological times to recorded history, there exists a long list of brave women who dedicated themselves to protecting their land.
Among such valiant figures are Queen Chennabhairadevi, who ruled for 54 years with her capital in the forests of Gerusoppa; Rani Chennamma of Kittur; Onake Obavva; Rani Abbakka; and Keladi Chennamma. At every step of history, one can find examples of courageous women who defended their kingdoms fearlessly, especially when their husbands were defeated or martyred in battle. Their contributions remain unforgettable.
On the auspicious occasion of International Women’s Day, the foundation has organised this special seminar focusing on women who have made distinctive contributions to society in history.
Speakers at the seminar include Rashmi Bhat, who will speak on Ramabai Ambedkar and Savita Ambedkar; Savita Arun Shetty, who will speak on Jayadevitai Ligade; Kumuda Shetty, who will speak on Ahilyabai Holkar; and Lalita Prabhu Angadi, who will speak on Sanchi Honnamma.
