Puttur: Woman collapses during devotional dance at temple festival in Kavu, dies of heart attack

Puttur, Mar 2: A 63-year-old woman died of a heart attack while performing ‘Kunita Bhajane’ during the annual jatrotsava at Kavu Muthu Mariyamma Temple on the night of Saturday February 28. 

The deceased has been identified as Rathnavathi Balappa Poojari Kannadka (63), a member of Sulyapadavu Mahalakshmi Vanitha Bhajana Mandali.

She reportedly collapsed while performing the devotional dance. She was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Puttur, but doctors declared that she had passed away before reaching the hospital. According to doctors, the cause of death was a heart attack.

It is learnt that her two sons and husband had predeceased her, and she had been living alone since then. A devout believer, she had been unable to attend the bhajane on February 27. On February 28, she had completed two rounds of bhajane and collapsed during the third performance.

She is survived by her married daughter.
